The Practical Technical SEO Checklist for Business Websites

Even the most beautifully designed website will struggle to bring in consistent leads if search engines cannot properly crawl, understand, and display its pages. Technical SEO is not about stuffing keywords into paragraphs; it is about giving Google Search Console clear HTML metadata, fast-loading assets, and clean URL architecture.

1. Crafting High-CTR Title Tags (50–60 Characters)

Your <title> tag is the single most important on-page SEO signal and the first headline users see in Google search results. Keep titles between 50 and 60 characters so they do not get cut off with an ellipsis (...) on mobile screens. Lead with your core offering or tool name, followed by your brand name.

2. Writing Compelling Meta Descriptions (120–160 Characters)

While Google does not use the meta description tag as a direct keyword ranking multiplier, a specific, benefit-driven summary between 120 and 160 characters dramatically increases your organic Click-Through Rate (CTR). Treat your meta description like a two-sentence pitch that tells the searcher exactly what problem your page solves.

3. Canonical Tags & XML Sitemaps

  • Self-Referencing Canonical Tag: Every public page should include <link rel="canonical" href="https://yourdomain.com/page-url" /> so search engines never split ranking authority between duplicate URL parameters.
  • Clean sitemap.xml Submission: Register your domain property in Google Search Console and submit an up-to-date sitemap.xml listing every canonical page on your site.

4. Image Compression & Mobile Responsiveness

Google uses mobile-first indexing across the entire web. Ensure no container has fixed horizontal pixel widths that overflow smartphone viewports, and compress all hero and product images under 120 KB using our Browser Image KB Reducer.
